Pumpkin Spice Powder

This DIY pumpkin spice blend is the real deal. You’ll start with a homemade dried pumpkin powder (made from real pumpkin) before adding in traditional pumpkin-pie inspired spices. Once you have your pumpkin spice blend, use it to whip up a homemade pumpkin spice latte or try it in cookies, pie, and pancakes—anywhere you want some warm fall flavor! The pumpkin powder adds a rich orange color and intensifies the pumpkin flavor of your homemade pumpkin spice blend.

Ingredients

    Pumpkin Powder

  • 425g (1¾ cups) Pumpkin puree (homemade or canned)

    Pumpkin Spice Blend

  • 42g (6 tbsp) Pumpkin powder
  • 18g (3 tbsp) Cinnamon
  • 6g (1 tbsp) Ginger
  • 4.5g (1 ½ tsp) Nutmeg
  • 1.8g (¾ tsp) Cloves

Instructions

  1. To make the pumpkin powder: Spread cooked (either baked or steamed) and pureed pumpkin into a thin layer on a silicone mat. Place in the dehydrator, then set it to 130°F (55°C). Dehydrate for 10 hours. Check for doneness; it should be completely dry to the touch. If necessary, dehydrate for up to 2 more hours. Once dry, let your puree cool, break into pieces, and grind into a powder using the spice grinder or a high powder blender.
  2. To make the pumpkin spice blend: Combine dehydrated pumpkin powder with other spices in a bowl and whisk together. If you prefer a finer consistency, use the spice grinder to combine the pumpkin spice mixture, but this step is not required.
  3. ∗ Tip: To make a very fine powder, pass through a mesh sieve after grinding.
